History

At St Katherine’s School & Nursery we are following the Pearson History Scheme. All children from Years 1 to 6 will complete 3 terms of History each year, during these terms 1 hour of History will be taught each week.  The topics covered are carefully sequenced to ensure children have opportunities to revisit ideas and issues and deepen their understanding as well as developing a sense of chronology.

While in Key Stage 1 children will learn about events and people in History such as The Great Fire of London and the life of Pocahontas, they will also learn about developments in travel and transport. In Key Stage 2 children will learn about ancient civilisations from the Shang Dynasty to Ancient Greece and the Benin Kingdom. They will also learn about the Industrial Revolution, civil rights and changes in Britain.

All children are supported in accessing the History curriculum regardless of their needs.
