Mathematics is taught on a daily basis, throughout the school and wherever possible is linked to a meaningful context. All classes follow 'Maths No Problem' for maths lessons, but also utilise opportunities in other subjects, to use mathematical knowledge and understanding. At St Katherine's, we place great emphasis on investigative maths and encourage children to solve mathematical challenges and develop their mathematical skills in a variety of areas. .
In KS1, we place an emphasis on developing secure foundational understanding and as such seek to develop mathematical fluency. Throughout the school, we now have increased focus on development of mathematical reasoning and explanation.
Manipulatives (mathematical resources) are used throughout all year groups to support and challenge understanding.
