This week, one of our little acorns requested the book 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. All of Acorn class enjoyed our learning linked to this story. We made our own beanstalk to go in our creative area and used it throughout the week on our maths table and in our small world areas. We also made an obstacle course in our outside area and pretended we were climbing the beanstalk. We enjoyed retelling the story, our favourite part is 'Fee Fi Fo Fum', just like the giant in the story.
We are conducting a 'Grow a Bean in a Bag' science experiment. We planted an assortment of bean seeds in plastic wallets and stuck them to our windows, we are excited to see what will happen. We have predicted that they will grow because sun comes through the window. We were hoping for a giant beanstalk, but unfortunately our bean seeds were not magic!!
In maths, we have been looking at size comparisons, using our small world animals to develop our understanding of size. We have explored language relating to size such as, small, smaller, and smallest. We made our own measuring tool using our handprints and had fun measuring ourselves to see how many hands tall we are. The tallest person in Acorn class is 12 hands tall.
We have been busy in our outside area, making space for some new potted plants and fairy gardens. If you would like to bring a plant, some herbs or a fairy garden in for our growing area, that would be fantastic.
