The fifth week of term 6 has come to an end and wow what a week it has been. We have had so much going on in Acorn class, we have been reading a wonderful book called ‘Emma Jane’s Aeroplane’. We have learned about different cities around the world and famous landmarks. London, Paris, and New York are on our bucket list!
We used our mark making skills to draw pictures on sheets of paper, then made our own paper aeroplanes. The most creative drawing goes to the singing and dancing meatball picture! We tested out our paper aeroplanes on the field, to see whose travelled the furthest. The winner was a member of Hedgehog group! After, we had a great time throwing our aeroplanes around on the big field.
In phonics this week, we have been using our listening skills to guess different sounds. We introduced a mystery box full of objects beginning with the same sound. We spotted the link, that all the objects had the initial sound ‘s’.
In our maths learning, we have been consolidating our learning. We have been ordering numbers and using language relating to size, when building cardboard box towers in the construction area. But our favourite maths activity this week, was when we represented our marks in a tally graph to predict who would win the England vs Denmark football match. We were very happy that England won their match and made it into the final. We celebrated by making our own England flags. We will be cheering on England in the final on Sunday!
Next week, is our last full week in Acorn class, where has the school year gone?! We are hoping for good weather Tuesday 13th July, so we can have our sports day. If this is not your normal session, please arrive at the nursery gate for 1:15pm.
