This week the Reception Classes have been focusing on consolidating the phonic sounds that have been taught so far, as well as reading and writing those sounds. They have read labels on gift bags and collected the objects named, written all the sounds they can hear in CVC words and played a variety of games to support their learning. In maths, they have been finding different ways to arrange blocks of five cubes, recognise numerals begin to write numerals to 5. The topic this week was based on the story of the 'Owl Babies'. The children talked about the feelings of the baby owls and what they did to make themselves feel better. The children then learnt nocturnal animals, finding out about what they ate and how they were different to animals that came out in the daytime. The highlight of the week was when Gala Class discovered a partridge in the mud kitchen. All of the classes came out to observe the partridge. They were very quiet to ensure that it was not frightened away.
