Young Carers at St Katherine's
We are proud to introduce our Young Carers Champions – Miss Aikenhead and Miss Croucher – who are here to support students with caring responsibilities at home. A young carer is someone under 18 who looks after a family member who may be ill, disabled, struggling with mental health, or affected by substance misuse. Identifying a young carer can be challenging, but signs might include tiredness, poor concentration, emotional distress, or regular absences.
At school, we are committed to supporting our young carers. We provide a Young Carers Voice Box, where students can confidentially share their thoughts and feelings. Our Young Carers Club runs every three weeks on Thursday lunchtime, offering a safe space to relax and connect with others in similar situations. There is also a notice board with up-to-date information about support services, both in school and externally.
